Don’t Faint in Adversity
“If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.” — Proverbs 24:10
- Adversity teaches. There are some lessons that only adversity can teach us. The difficulties and struggles might just be God‘s building blocks in our lives. They force us to look at, decide, or act when we might not do so in normal circumstances.
- Adversity draws. We are all prone to be self-focused, but adversity has the potential to make a child of God cry out and seek His help. The Psalmist David said that his affliction drew him to God (Ps 119:67). If everything was going well in your life; if you had money in your pocket, you and your family were healthy, and there were no issues, your need for God would not be as apparent. It is in the dark and difficult times the sheep draw near to the Shepherd.
- Adversity is certain. It might seem appealing to walk through life without being scratched, but that is far from reality. God does not shy away from the fact that in the world you shall have tribulation (John 16:33), and to live godly you’ll suffer persecution (2 Timothy 3:12). But just as certain as adversity is in your life, so God‘s comfort, peace, and joy are available for those that seek the Lord.
You will certainly faint if you depend upon your own strength and guidance, but you will be taught great lessons and draw close to God if you will look to Him in the day of adversity.
