Training Plan

Pictured, VSM Graduation 2024
VSM offers a Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical Studies in Missions. Students must complete the prescribed coursework filled with biblical teaching, practical training, personal mentoring, and an overseas internship. Each year consists of two seventeen-week semesters followed by a six-month internship. Completion takes three and a half years if fulfilled consecutively. Students may enter the program at the beginning of any semester.

BIBLICAL TEACHING

God’s Word is the primary VSM textbook. In addition to being taught systematically through the wholeBible, VSM students are trained to exegete, expound, and apply God’s Word to daily life and cross-cultural ministry.

PRACTICAL TRAINING

The most important aspect of VSM training is serving in a local church. Local students serve in their own church and out-of-town students serve in a partnering church. Before graduating, students are expected to preach or teach multiple times, share the gospel, make disciples, and be used by God in local church ministry.

PERSONAL MENTORING

VSM has a philosophy of mentoring called “life-on-life discipleship.” This method is seen in the life of Jesus and the Apostle Paul. Outside of class, students spendtime with faculty, church leaders, missionaries home on furlough, and other godly Christians, learning and being mentored.

OVERSEAS INTERNSHIP

The capstone of the VSM program is a six-month overseas internship (or two 3-month internships) with a VBM missionary or another approved missionary or ministry. This experience gives all our students the opportunity to be mentored by veteran missionaries and gain valuable on-the-field experience in language learning, cultural adaptation, evangelism, discipleship, and cross-cultural church-planting.
