Find God in It

There are times in our lives when it is easy to detect God. Maybe it’s a blessing, a discipline, or just very clear that God’s hand was involved. But what about at other times? What about the times when you cannot detect if something is just coincidental or circumstantial? I want to ask you to challenge your own thinking. I want to ask you to find God in every step, every moment, and every situation. Think about some Biblical examples.

Jonah was on a ship headed south trying to escape from what God told him to do. Very soon he found himself in a stormy predicament. He was thrown overboard by a bunch of sailors (Jonah 1:15), but Jonah recognized it as God casting him into the sea (Jonah 2:3). Man’s schemes cannot thwart God’s divine plan.

Pharaoh kicked the Israelites out of Egypt, but God says He brought them out of Egypt. Pharaoh was powerful and the Egyptians were mighty, but God’s plan was not being controlled by human strength.

The government demanded Joseph and Mary go to Bethlehem to be taxed, but it was God that orchestrated them to get to Bethlehem. Ungodly men may have been looking for extra money, but God’s overall plan was not in jeopardy. God’s plan supersedes the government, the lost, and the wicked.

Joseph’s brothers thought they were responsible for his time in Egypt, but Joseph recognized God sent him (Genesis 45:5). It’s one thing when God uses the lost, but what about the evil intentions of your own brethren? Even the criticism or condemnation that comes from those closest does not manipulate God’s plan.

There is nothing accidental or coincidental with our God. He knows all and sees all. Instead of fighting what happens to you in life, find God in it. Recognize that nothing takes God by surprise. He is in charge, He knows what is best, and He works it out for His good. Acknowledge Him and recognize Him in all your ways and He will direct your paths (Proverbs 3:6).
