I’d Rather Serve Jesus Than Anything

I’d Rather Serve Jesus Than Anything

“For a day in thy courts Is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, Than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the LORD God is a sun and shield: The LORD will give grace and glory: No good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.” — Psalm 84:10-11

The verse begins by stating that serving God surpasses all time and treasure. No amount of time can compare to time spent with God, and no worldly pleasure can replace the act of serving Him. However, the verse doesn’t end there; the following verse (vs. 11) declares that God does not deny good to those who walk uprightly. Besides eternal satisfaction, there are also present blessings that God bestows upon His children. Rhea F. Miller beautifully captured this thought in her well-known hymn from 1922, “I’d rather have Jesus than anything.” Reflect on and pray over these words:

I'd rather have Jesus than silver or gold;

I'd rather be His than have riches untold;

I'd rather have Jesus than houses or lands.

I'd rather be led by His nail-pierced hand
