Preparation Goals for Planting a Church

1. Choose and study a city/area — what is mode of transportation, average income, main jobs, main avenues, critical spots to start church, and different classes of people. Make a plan to strategically evangelize and plant churches all over the city/area.
2. Make an order of service (duration, how much music vs. preaching, etc.)
3. How many services will you plan to have in a week? Why not have more/less?
4. Make your own tract.
5. Make a plan of your goals for now to 5 years.
6. Make your preaching calendar for entire 1st year on field. On every scheduled service you should write title or passage (series name or book preaching).
7. Plan and present a study on Lord’s supper.
8. Explain and then practice baptizing someone.
9. Plan and present a study on performing a funeral.
10. Plan and present a study on performing a wedding.
11. Make a list of what you would need to buy for your first building and service.
12. Make your own Discipleship course (8-10 lessons minimum).
13. What will a typical week look like for you? Make a rough schedule what each day of the week will look like. Remember that your schedule reveals your priorities in life and ministry, so figure in time for what’s important.
14. Write a list of ministries you want to have in your church/ministry. Write a list of ministries that people in your church can begin doing right now? How long do they have to be in your church before they can start serving? Do they have to be saved to do all these things?
15. What is your plan of evangelism? How will you get the word out? Remember that if you don’t go get them, you won’t have anyone to whom to preach.
16. Write up how your launch service is going to go.
17. Get a collection of 100 messages.
18. Make a Biblical study of why you believe what you believe (music, marriage, love, church, etc.)
19. Write a study on what Bible says about church membership — why is it important, and who can be a member?
20. Write a study on what the Bible says about baptism — requirements to be baptized, what does baptism mean, and who has the authority to baptize?
21. Talk about music in church — how do you pick songs to start and end a service, invitation time, offering time, and how much of the service time do you sing?
