Managing Yourself Wisely (3 of 3)
And now for the last one...
You Are Your Own Pastor.
How’s your spiritual temperature? Do you read your Bible outside of church? How is your walk with God right now? Are the influences in your life (music, friends, movies) drawing you closer to God or pulling you away? Are you avoiding temptations or falling into them? How is your personal purity? Your spiritual adversary would love to destroy you. Stay in love with and close to God.
You Are Your Own Parent.
Your mom is not here to tell you to get up or make your bed, it’s your job now. Are you being responsible with what you've been entrusted? Are you keeping your room, vehicle, and life clean? Are you being kind and learning to get along with others? Do you speak hurtful words, or do you mind your manners?
Paul said when he “became a man, I put away childish things” (1 Corinthians 13:11). It’s time to mature both spiritually and practically.
You Are Your Own Counselor.
Are you taking time to relax and rejuvenate? Are you getting the help and comfort you need in times of sorrow? Are you maintaining your priorities? Have you learned to say “no” when needed? Are you harboring bitterness?
The Word of God and the Spirit of God are the best counselor and accountability partner you can have. While seeking help from others is sometimes necessary, it is ultimately up to you to decide to make the right choices. God will provide wisdom if you ask (James 1:5) and guide your steps (Psalm 37:23) so you can live the life He intended for you.
You should be wise and reach out to others for advice, but remember that it will not happen if you don’t make it happen. You don’t have to live in an echo chamber, believing your ideas, counsel, and knowledge is all you need. Your marriage, family, and future ministry depends on you getting the needed wisdom. But do remember that no one, including God, is going to make you do right and grow. You must learn to manage yourself wisely so you can live a faithful and fruitful life.
